Obituary of David Mullane
Mullane, David F. age 93 of Ventnor, New Jersey passed away peacefully on September 30, 2018 surrounded by his family. Dave was born in Hornell, New York and grew up in the Buffalo, New York area. During WWII he enlisted in the Army Air Force and became a pilot of a B-25 bomber. After completing military service in 1945 he attended Canisius College in Buffalo, graduating in 1950. That same year he started his career as a Special Agent in the FBI. During his tenure in the FBI, Dave served in the Los Angeles, San Francisco, Salt Lake City, Las Vegas and New York City offices. He met and married Anne (nee) Hanley who was also employed in the New York City office. They lived in New York City and River Edge, New Jersey before moving to Ventnor, New Jersey in 1978.
Dave retired from the FBI to accept employment as the first Chief Inspector with the New Jersey Casino Control Commission (CCC) in Atlantic City, New Jersey. While at the CCC, Dave was responsible for the hiring, training and overall supervision of the State inspectors assigned to the casinos. In 1987 Dave retired from the CCC and conducted background investigations for various Federal government agencies. He later worked as an Inspector with the City of Ventnor before (finally) retiring at age 83.
Dave was a man of impeccable character and great integrity. He was totally devoted to his beloved wife Anne of 62 years and to his extended family. Although Dave loved to golf, he never had more fun than when he was body surfing in the waves on the Ventnor City beach.
Dave is survived by his wife and four children: David of Rye, New York, Anne Marie Niciforo of Chicago, Illinois, Frances of Hayden, Idaho and Michael of Chicago, Illinois; eight grandchildren; a great granddaughter; and five nephews and nieces. Dave was predeceased by his parents David A. and Mary C. and his sisters Eleanor Kennedy and Claire Piazza.
Dave was a devout Catholic and a faithful parishioner at St. James Catholic Church in Ventnor. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am, with a visitation beginning at 9:30am on Saturday October 13, 2018 at Holy Trinity Parish: St. James Church, 6415 Atlantic Avenue, Ventnor.
