Obituary of Thomas J McDonough III
McDonough, III, Thomas J. was born July 23, 1947, in Atlantic City and passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 19, 2018.
A graduate of Holy Spirit High School and Villanova University, Tom was a resident of Atlantic City, Ventnor and Galloway. Upon graduation, he devoted his time and successfully operated his family business, The Erin Bar on Arkansas Avenue in Atlantic City, and worked for Atlantic County Government as a Social Worker. Tom was an extraordinary teacher for fifteen years of all casino games at Casino Career Institute and enabled hundreds of students to become licensed and employed in the gaming industry. He proudly retired after thirty-five years from Caesars Casino Hotel. Tom was highly skilled in gaming procedure knowledge and he held various casino supervisory positions and finally as Director of Poker, running one of the largest WSOP tournaments ever held in Atlantic City.
Tom was also involved and served on event committees for many charitable groups such as, March of Dimes, Friendly Sons of St. Patrick’s, Seashore Gardens Living Center, Gilda’s Club and Shultz-Hill Arts Foundation. He also served as Vice President of the Galloway Township Republican Committee.
Tom was an accomplished athlete in his youth, playing football and excelling at baseball, having two tryouts with the Atlanta Braves. His most favorite sport was squash and he was a longtime member and past President of Chalfonte Haddon Hall Racquet Club. Tom was an avid sports fan and enjoyed cheering for his favorite teams, especially Villanova and the Eagles. He lived his entire life with a passionate commitment to enjoy everyone and everything each day.
Predeceased by his parents, Theresa and Thomas J. McDonough, Jr.; brother, Kevin McDonough; son, Thomas J. McDonough IV; sister in law Kathy McDonough; and aunt Sr. Anne Patricia.
Tom is survived by his loving wife, Mila McDonough; stepchildren Laura and Larry McCabe, Michael Miraglia, Kim SantaMaria, Marc and Danielle Summerson and Lynee Lopez; grandchildren Justine Miraglia, Amanda McCabe, Sean McCabe, Tyler Summerson, Gabriela, Danny and Isabela Lopez; brother Dan McDonough, brother and sister in law Dennis and Marion McDonough; sister and brother in law, Terry and Tom Prendergast; sister in law and brother in law Meri and Robin Wagner Aitken; cousin Kathy Gallagher; nephews and nieces, Kevin Prendergast and Danielle, Matt Prendergast, Adam and Liara Begale, Lara Begale, Angela and Ed Dennis, Justin, Maggie, Brian, David, Michael and Patrick Wagner. He also leaves behind many other relatives and dear friends.
A viewing will be held from 4:00pm to 7:00pm followed by funeral service at 7:00pm to 7:30pm on Monday, September 24th at George H. Wimberg Funeral Home, 1707 New Road, Linwood, NJ. Condolences may be extended to the family at ghwimberg.com.
