Saturday, September 22, 2018Derby was one of a kind. He was an icon not only at Chelsea Little League but in the city of Atlantic City. Countless thousands of young kids we’re tiaught, guided and loved by this good man. He gave without counting the cost. And now looking back I’m sure that his time effort and energy at times must have cost him dearly. But doing the right thing for the right reasons was always his motivation as I now see as an adult. Thank you Mr. Derbishire for touching my life and being an example of what a good man is. I remember a saying that was posted at Chelsea Little League “never does a man stand so tall as when he stoops to help a child”. I wonder if that might not be part of the reason why the Lord called me to be a teacher! Rest in peace my friend. rtNAb

Saturday, September 22, 2018We were sorry to hear about your father’s passing. He was a good man who did so much for the community- especially the youth- keeping them active in athletics and making sure they were making good decisions when they came to the “ fork “ in the road. We will always remember Derby announcing the races back to the United States from Henley when Holy Spirit raced there. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. With love and sympathy. Stan &Barbara Bergman

Friday, September 21, 2018Derby was one of a kind. I learned plenty from him. Good and bad! He made me laugh always. He was the first coach I disagreed with and argued my point to the end. He still did it his way! Love to all the Derbyshires you are all great people and I am proud to know your family

Thursday, September 20, 2018Not enough space to recall all my fond memories. Derb was a coworker as an umpire and a member of my coaching staff. We traveled all over the tri state to watch games and spent many hours coaching together. Most of all his friendship and loyalty will be greatly missed. This area will miss is quick wit and humor. As a media person he always wanted to promote the locals. His daily calls to Hurley in the Morning Show were not about reporting professional scores. It was the local high schools and not just varsity. Derby reported the Little League Baseball scores, Atlantic County Junior Football, Henly, Seagull Classic, you name it he reported it. To his family, daughter Cris, sons Bobby and Joey and his extended family of sports fans throughout our region we are sorry for your loss. I already miss the phone calls asking the score of a game or what time our game is Saturday. Derb the local gyms and fields will miss you but we know you are there is spirit.
