Obituary of Robert Burnside
BURNSIDE, Robert R. “Bird”; 65, of Egg Harbor Township, passed away peacefully at home on May 14, 2018, with the love of his life, Donna, holding his hand. Bob fought a courageous battle with brain cancer with his “heroes” by his side. Born in Atlantic City, Bob served his country with honor as a member of the United States Navy followed by 25 years of dedicated service as a firefighter with the Atlantic City Fire Department. Predeceased by his father Hugh “Skip” Burnside, Bob is survived by his wife Donna Burnside; stepdaughter Nicole Vespertino; mother Mary Burnside; brothers James (Cathy), Richard, and Matthew (Amy); his sister-in-law Paula Evangelista (Anthony); many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. When not riding his motorcycle with Donna on the back, you could find Bob hanging out with his friends in the gym, talking, or sitting in his recliner watching a ball game with his remote in his hand. Bob will always be remembered for his sparkling eyes, infectious smile and quick wit. No one could match Bob’s sarcasm. Bob loved playing sports, especially baseball, Kissane softball, basketball, and golf, hanging on “the corner” in Ducktown, his friends, and most of all, Donna.Viewings will be held Friday, May 18th, from 6 to 8pm at the George H. Wimberg Funeral Home, 1707 New Road, Linwood and again on Saturday, May 19th starting at 10am at the St. Michael’s Church on Mississippi Ave in Atlantic City, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11am. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to Neuro Oncology Research at Penn Medicine.
