Obituary of Gregory Reid
Reid, Gregory Allan, age 57, of Margate, passed away surrounded by his family, on Friday, January 19, 2018.
Born October 21, 1960 in Upper Darby, PA, he grew up in Ventnor, attending St. James Grammar School, and raised his family in Margate. After graduating from Atlantic City High School in 1979, Greg found a summer job with the Harrison Beverage Company. With a work ethic matched by few, he remained with the company for over 38 years.
Greg loved coaching his boys, Aaron and Alex in basketball, baseball, and soccer. He also loved being a part of Margate Baseball, he served as commissioner of the minor league for several years. He enjoyed coaching in the Field of Dreams baseball league in Absecon, and the Hoops for All basketball league, where he had been a coach since 2008. After Superstorm Sandy, he became an Atlantic County Disaster Response Team volunteer. Greg took pride in being from Ventnor and always wanted to see Atlantic City succeed.
Greg and Shari adopted several pets from the Atlantic City Humane Society, including cats Lucy, Ethel, and Floyd and dogs Ollie, Bronson, and Stella, whom he loved taking to the dog beach. Greg also embraced being a Washington Redskins fan in Eagles country, and loved the attention he attracted. He made sure everyone knew that the Redskins still have three more Super Bowl rings than the Eagles.
Family was everything to Greg, from being a husband and father, to an uncle and dedicated friend. To Greg, every cloud had a silver lining, he saw the good in everyone he met.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Shari; his adoring children, Aaron and Alex (Tank); sister, Kathleen (Jeff) Martin; brother, Adrian; sister in-law, Jill Kaiserman (Calvin Cizek); and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Oliver and Catherine Reid and his younger brother, Christopher Reid.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to one of Greg’s favorite charities may be made to South Jersey Field of Dreams, American Cancer Society Hope Lodge in and the Atlantic City Humane Society.
