Obituary of Dr. Mario Pallotta

Pallotta, Dr. Mario J., born in Uniontown, PA, on July 14, 1929. Mario moved with his family to Paterson, NJ, where he attended Patterson High School.  After graduating, he went on to Catholic University in Washington DC for three years. He then picked up credits at Rutgers, Fairleigh Dickinson and entered Pennsylvania College of Optometry, where he also graduated with honors.  He enlisted in the US Army and served as an optometrist.  He practiced in Glen Rock, NJ for over 50 years and Ridgewood, NJ.  During his career, he was President of the Society of Optometric Physicians for two years. 

In memory of his dear colleague, Dr. Les Mintz, he started a scholarship foundation thru the New Jersey Society of Optometric Physicians, which is still in existence.

Mario was an avid golfer belonging to High Mountain Country Club in Franklin Lakes, NJ.  After retiring he moved to Egg Harbor Township and joined Harbor Pines Country Club. 

Mario passed away peacefully after fighting a battle with bone cancer, with his beloved wife Barbara (nee Frolow) at his side.  He is survived by his sister, Emily (Ken) Roughgarden; niece, Kristi (Charles) Austin; nephew, Joseph (Beth) DeGise; brother-in-laws Bob Frolow and David (Diana) Frolow;   His stepchildren, Charles and Stephanie Sorg; step-grandchildren, Lauren Hanfield, Michaellea (Matthew) Breder, Matthew (Morgan) Sorg, and Maddison Angelsetro; and step-great-grandchild, Emmie.

As an avid New York sports fan, he had seats for the NY Giants for nearly 50 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 352 and the AmVets Post 911 in Somers Point, as well as lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus in Hawthorne, NJ.

A Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018 from 9:30-10:30am, followed by a Memorial Mass at 10:30am at Our Lady of Sorrows, Wabash Ave., Linwood. Interment with Military Honors will follow at the Atlantic County Veterans Cemetery, Estell Manor.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to any of the following organizations: Les Mintz Scholarship Foundation, American Legion, or AmVets.
