Obituary of Joseph Campano
Campano, Joseph J., 83, of Linwood, passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Atlanticare Medical Center. He was born in Malden, MA and completed his high school education in Revere, MA. He went on to Wentworth Institute of Technology. He moved from MA to New Jersey in 1979 to take a job as the director of construction of Playboy Casino and Hotel. He then transferred to Bally’s and from there transferred to the Showboat Casino as the director of construction. He went on to be the director of Youth Build of New Jersey. He was always a “handy man” at heart.
He was Army veteran who continued to support his fellow vets till the last taps are played. He always loved animals especially those that visited him daily in his animal sanctuary in the back yard. Ever present was his loyal and faithful cat “Lolli.” He was an active member of the Linwood/Northfield Kiwanis acquiring many dear friends.
During the past year he was lucky to be under the care of Atlanticare Hospice and several wonderful caretakers who indulged him with short walks, jigsaw puzzles and M&M’s!
He was predeceased by his father Joseph and mother Mary Campano. Surviving are his loving wife and best friend of 44 years, Phyllis of Linwood; his stepdaughter Tamara Belle of NJ; his two children, John (Ann) of PA, their two sons, Joe and John; his daughter Karen (Michael) Gertz and of MA; his brother, Tony (Francine) of NH; his sister, Mary Ann Carbone of MA and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.
A visitation for friends and family will be held at the George H. Wimberg Funeral Home, 1707 New Road, Linwood, NJ 08221 on Tuesday December 19th, 2017 from 11:00-12:00, followed by a 12pm memorial service with military honors.
Interment will be private at the Atlantic County Veterans Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Atlanticare Hospice, and the Cape Atlantic Cats of Ocean City NJ. Condolences may be extended to the family at ghwimberg.com
