Obituary of Michael McGhee
Michael A. McGhee, 71 of Ventnor passed away at his home on September 24, 2016 surrounded by his family and friends after a 16 year battle with cancer.
Born July 7, 1945 in Atlantic City, NJ and always stayed local. Michael graduated from Holy Spirit High School and Pierce College in Philadelphia.
His life long career was at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino starting the day it opened, climbing the ladder of positions to reach Shift Manager of the Casino Floor. He took pride and loved fulfilling the duties of his position and in return received respect and love from all he worked with.
Next to Michael’s love for his family and friends was his passion for the game of golf and the Phillies and Eagles. One of the greatest days of his life was his hole in one at the Mays Landing Country Club. The next greatest day was a round of golf in Ireland when he was on his bucket list trip with 14 members of his family.
Michael lived his life to the fullest despite any obstacles in the way. He always gave of himself to anyone who needed his assistance, advice, or love. Time was spent daily reading the Bible and was ready to go his eternal home. His positive attitude will remain in our hearts knowing his belief that “life is always worth while as long as you smile.” Michael’s brilliant wit and love for life served as an amazing example to all who were blessed to have known him.
Survivors include his loving wife Joanne of 34 years, his five children – Kelly Anne (Lisa), Michael (Dawn), Shannon (John), Ryan (Karen), and Danny (Shannon), his sister – Nancy Morgan (James), Sister-in-Law Judith Donato (Felix), his six grandchildren Alexa, Jack, Olivia, Maggie, Sophia and Lauren – and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Mike was preceded in death by his Parents – Albert and Nancy.
A very special thank you to Dr. Nazha and wonderful Staff for many years of compassionate and loving care! All of you were a second family to Michael.
Charities of one’s choice welcomed.
