Obituary of Maria Doyle
Doyle (Houwen) Maria E., of Linwood, NJ joined her heavenly relatives on August 24, 2021. Born on November 20, 1954, she lived in Lindenwold, NJ. She attended St. Lawrence School as well as Overbrook High School, graduating in 1972.
Maria moved to Margate in 1980 and worked briefly as a cocktail waitress at the Brighton Casino until she was hired at the Claridge Casino as a “DAY ONE” cocktail waitress. Known as “Mamma Maria” she was loved by her “girls” at the Claridge. Always caring about fellow workers and their families was how she got her nickname. She was also a loving, caring mother to her husband, children and all her other family members.
After 25 years as a waitress, she retired and found her true passion, going to yard and estate sales and finding “treasures.” She had two websites in which she sold vintage items. “The Linen Lady” was always thrilled when she could find old linens or dirty table covers and restore them to their original beauty.
Survivors are her husband of 37 years Richard; her sons Casey and Sean. She also leaves behind her sisters Patricia Allsebrook, Karen Adams (Jay) and Susan Bompadre (Richard). Along with them are Celia Doyle, her mother-in-law; as well as Dean Doyle and Beth An Lee (Gary). There are numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, grand nephews and a grandniece. She is preceded in death by her parents John P. Houwen and Ann T. (Collins); and brothers John, Michael, and James.
A visitation will ne held Wednesday, September 8th from 9-11am, followed by an 11am Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Wabash Ave., Linwood. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Vincent de Paul or a favorite charity in Maria’s name. The family also asks that you wear bright colors, no black. We feel Maria would want that, it’s a celebration of her life.
We would also like to thank the nurses and staff at Complete Care at Cape May Courthouse for the wonderful care and love Maria received at that facility. Our family knew she was in great hands with the nurses and staff there, thank you once again. To plant a tree in memory of Maria Doyle, please visit Tribute Store
