REILLY (NEE COSTELLO), JOANNE, - passed away at her home unexpectedly on July 15, 2021. Joanne was born September 19, 1942 to John and Josephine Costello. She was a 1960 graduate of Audubon High School in New Jersey. Upon graduating high school, Joanne briefly worked at Atlantic City Electric Company before becoming a wife and mother. She then found her calling as a homemaker and mom. Later in life, she volunteered her time within the Ruth Newman Shapiro Organization, even serving as president; she served as a hostess within the Miss America Pageant Organization; and she also worked as a mediator at the Atlantic City Courthouse. Joanne was a fountain of wisdom; whether her knowledge pertained to doctors, homecare remedies, cooking recipes, travel tips or childcare, she could provide a never-ending wealth of answers to any question. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports at the high school and collegiate level, and she loved to travel the world. Initially, she had a passion for traveling with her husband, Bill; in later years, she took the opportunity to show her grandchildren the world by traveling with them on individual journeys far and wide.
As a mom, she ran a tight ship but knew how to have fun and loved to laugh. Her designation as New Jersey Mother of the Year in 1993 serves as a testament to her maternal instincts and loving nature. She could be found every Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas spending hours upon hours cooking a delicious meal for her children and grandchildren. These holiday festivities brought her the greatest joy. Joanne was generous to a fault and was always willing to lend a helping hand. She was the ultimate caretaker for her loved ones. She was a vibrant woman who was blessed with a wonderful group of friends and a loving family. In her free time, she loved movies and puzzles with a cup of tea. Joanne also enjoyed watching sports, particularly the Eagles, and had season tickets at Lincoln Financial Field for many years. She took pleasure in cooking or in drinking an occasional martini, kept an immaculate house, was highly skilled with crochet hooks, and enjoyed her weekly lunch outings with friends. She was also quite talented at sewing and even served unofficially as the family seamstress.
Joanne was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, William J. Reilly. She is survived by her son and daughters: Robert (and Shandi) Hogg; Susan (and Dan) Begley; and Geralyn Williscroft. She especially loved her role as MeMom and is survived by her beloved grandchildren: Lia, Lily, Lena, Tyler, Kenzie, Dan, Devon, Maddie, Sammy and Mick. Joanne also leaves behind her daughter from another mother, Lynne Illingworth, and Lynne’s two children - Harley and Matthew - who, while not family by blood, are family at heart.
