Robert Anthony Meyer, 90, passed away peacefully on May 20th, 2021 at his Mays Landing NJ home from dementia-related complications. Bob was born in Princeton, NJ to Anthony and Rita Meyer on July 10, 1930. He attended the Hun School in Princeton and graduated in 1950. While there, he was a scholarship recipient, honor student and stand out athlete lettering in both wrestling and crew.
Bob received a full Navy ROTC scholarship to Villanova University where he was active in campus life. While a member of numerous clubs, committees and activities, sports were by far his favorite, receiving varsity letters in football and wrestling. Upon graduating with a degree in economics, Bob received his commission in the United States Marine Corps and went on to serve our nation proudly at numerous duty stations both stateside and overseas. Upon fulfilling his service commitment in the Corp, Bob transitioned to civilian life and enjoyed a career in the liquor wholesale industry until retirement. Along the way, he filled his spare time with involvement in a variety of civic and community related activities. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and back in its day, the Chalfonte-Haddon Hall Squash Club. He absolutely loved the game and played it until his knees no longer allowed him.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Midge, son Bob (Stephanie) Meyer Jr., daughter Katie (Stan) Read, and grandchildren Melissa and Robbie Meyer. He was also blessed to have four stepchildren – William (Andrea) Abranowicz, Susan Yashenko, Joann Abranowicz, Robert (Gloria) O’Connell, as well as 9 bonus grandkids and 2 great grandkids. A mass and celebration of life will be held for Bob at a later date. In lieu of flowers, feel free to make a donation to an Alzheimer’s or dementia charity of your choosing.
