Obituary of Elaine E. Hannon

Hannon, Elaine Ethel Diamond, aged 79, of Ocean City passed away at Bay Club in Ocean City this week. Born December 23, 1941 in North Philadelphia, she lived with both her parents and grandparents. She graduated from John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls High School, where she played the cello, was an excellent archer, and keen follower of American Bandstand. Growing up summers in Ocean City, NJ, she was an avid boater and fisherwoman who still holds the family record for largest flounder caught. She next enrolled at the Abington School of Nursing, achieving a four- year degree at the top of her class. After graduation Elaine moved to the Upper East Side of Manhattan to pursue her Masters Degree in Nursing at NYU. It was here that she met her husband, Gerald V. Hannon. They enjoyed all that Manhattan had to offer in the 1960s, including hip lounges, star- filled Broadway shows, and nights out at the legendary Playboy Club. After marriage, the family moved to Old Bridge, NJ. They welcomed two daughters as Elaine continued to work as a dedicated R.N. She was beloved by her patients for her care and kindness. A loving wife and mother, she was an early organic gardener and gourmet cook. She later became a high-end baker whose skills were in demand in their town. She was philanthropic throughout her life, supporting Native American, Catholic, and at- risk- youth charities. Elaine was able to fulfill her dream of retiring with her husband to the Jersey Shore, in addition to a winter home in Vero Beach, Florida, where she doted on her grandchildren. She will be loved and missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her daughters, Chrissy and Catherine, her sons- in- law, Timothy and James, and her adoring grandchildren, Brendan, Shannon, Connor, Liam, and Ryan. A visitation will be held Tuesday, May 25th from 9:30 – 10:30am at the George H. Wimberg Funeral Home, 1707 New Road, Linwood, NJ 08221. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11am at Church of the Resurrection /Saint Maximilian Kolbe Parish, 200 Tuckahoe Road, Marmora.
