Louise Santoleri

Obituary of Louise Santoleri

Santoleri, Louise (nee Difuria) 88, departed on April 18, 2021 with her family by her side in Egg Harbor Township, NJ.

A memorial gathering in her memory will be held at the Grange Estate on Saturday, June 5, 2021 beginning at 1pm. The Grange Estate is located at 143 Myrtle Avenue, Havertown, PA, 19083.

Louise was born on August 31, 1932 in West Philadelphia to Alberto Difuria and Mary Rubertucci. Her mother’s family immigrated to the United States from Molise and Abbruzzo. Her father’s family came from Roseto degli Abruzzi in 1918.

At a young age, Louise developed a passion for music. She played the piano, cello, and sang at the Settlement Music School. Louise’s love for music continued into her adult life. She sang at church, became a member of the local Haverford Choristers for over 20 years, and also participated in the Swarthmore Players’ rendition of the Sound of Music, as a singing nun.

In 1959 Louise married Albert Santoleri and raised their three children, Maria, John, and Paul, in Havertown, PA. When her children were older, Louise decided to pursue a degree in social work, graduating from West Chester University in 1981. She went on to work for Delaware (Delco) County to direct the Senior Center in Havertown, where she created a lively atmosphere for the aged community. Through the Senior Center, Louise guided older adults on international tours of various historic cities and towns of Europe. She also volunteered and became president of the Friends of the Grange, a community that maintains a historic gothic mansion in addition to their gardens in Havertown.

Louise was a collector, she was a lover of history, beautiful things, and books. She was very proud of her Italian heritage, as seen through her cooking and longtime membership of the sons (and daughters) of Italy. Louise facilitated several book clubs at the local library and really enjoyed learning.

Louise is survived by her three children and five grandchildren.

The family welcomes Donations made in her memory, in lieu of flowers, and these may be sent to The Friends of the Grange, 143 Myrtle Avenue, Havertown, PA 19083.
