Ryon, Dorothy (nee Oldfield), 89 of Northfield, passed away Tuesday, April 20th, at Shore Medical Center. Dot was born December 27, 1931 in Somers Point to Colin and Dorothy Oldfield. She attended Pleasantville High School Class of 1949 and graduated with her teaching degree from Trenton State College. Dot taught music in the Northfield School System for over 30 years, retiring in 1999. After retiring, she continued to play piano for many school programs and graduations. She taught private piano lessons to many. She also played the organ at a variety of local churches for over 50 years. Dot enjoyed traveling, and spent many years driving around the country with family. She was passionate about gardening, bird watching, playing and watching golf, lighthouses, game shows and time with her family. She was a crossword puzzle wizard. She also enjoyed a stiff Soco Manhattan, up, with a twist, rocks on the side. Dorothy was a member of the Northfield Volunteer Ladies Fire Auxillary and Chairman of the Northfield Christmas Tree Lighting. She is predeceased by her husband of nearly 50 years, Jim Ryon. Dot is survived by her children James (Ruth), Dottie, Shelley (Ron), and Thom (Kim); grandchildren Samantha, Derek, and Amanda Tripet; Ruthie, Maggie, and Fintan Ryon. Also surviving are her sister Gwen (Bob) of West Virginia, and extended family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Northfield Volunteer Fire Department, P.O Box 122, Northfield, NJ 08225. A visitation will be held Monday, April 26th from 1-2pm at the George H. Wimberg Funeral Home, 1707 New Road, Linwood, NJ 08221. Interment will be held privately at Seaside Cemetery.
