Obituary of Alma (Mary) Ashmen
Alma (Mary) Ashmen, 74, a loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt passed away on December 29th, 2020 surrounded by her three daughters.
Born on June 30, 1946 in Lebanon, KY, to John (Jack) and Nancy Lovett, Alma was raised in Pearl River, NY, before attending Elizabeth Seton College and William Penn College.
Alma was proud to be a 48 year resident of Ventnor, NJ and Somerset Ave. will not be the same without her.
A devoted educator, Alma spent over 30 years teaching in the Ventnor School System where she formed lifelong friendships with her colleagues, who became her best friends.
Alma had a passion for gardening and cooking, but more than anything she loved spending time with her family, whether it be Sunday night dinners or summers on her back deck. Her daughters and grandchildren were the light of her life. She was known for her sense of calm, patience, humbleness, and selflessness.
She will be sorely missed by her daughters Kathy (Buz) Swanik, Krista (Geoff) Haines, and Kelly (Keith) Burke; her grandchildren Brenden, Alex, Kelly, Jack, Gabrielle, Megan, Finn, Sean, and Colin; as well as her siblings Kathy (Don) Wilson, John (Carol) Lovett, Bruce Lovett, Ken (Linda) Lovett, and Peter Lovett; and her many nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held on Monday, January 4, 2020 at 9:00-10:30am at the George H. Wimberg Funeral Home, 1707 New Rd, Linwood, NJ 08221. Mass will follow at 11am at Holy Trinity Parish: St. James Church, Ventnor.
Burial will be private on Tuesday in NY where she will be laid to rest with her parents and beloved sister Nancy.
