Vincent Sabatini

Vincent Sabatini, 91, of Ventnor, NJ, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on October 12, 2021. Vincent was born in Atlantic City to Luigi and Anna Sabatini on June 29, 1930. He was an Army Veteran, who served in post war Germany. While in Germany, he played professional soccer. Vincent returned to Atlantic City where he was a highly successful professional boxer and fought in Convention Hall in 1948-1949 with a 17-0 record.  When Vincent met his future wife, Clara, he retired from boxing.


His life goal was “to have a family”. Vincent honed his skills as a chef at Luigi’s Restaurant in Atlantic city, once the largest restaurant in the country originally established by his father Luigi.  Vincent and his wife, Clare, then established Sabatini’s Restaurant in Atlantic City. The restaurant was operated for 40 years and was the subject of a landmark imminent domain battle in which Vincent and Clara ultimately prevailed. He was a proud member and past president of the Lion’s Club. Vincent was an avid handball and racquetball player and won numerous tournaments. Vincent and Clare dedicated time and resources to an orphanage which they helped establish and still serves children in the Dominican Republic.


Vincent is survived by his children, Anna, Charles, Louis, Michael, and Stephen, his grandchildren Annmarie, Alison, Vincent, Lauren, Teresa, and Natalie, 10 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Clara and his granddaughter Charla.


A viewing will be held from 11am-12pm, followed by a service at 12pm on Saturday, October 16th, at the George H. Wimberg Funeral Home, 7300 Ventnor Ave., Ventnor. Entombment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mays Landing.
