Obituary of Dennis McGurk
McGurk, Dennis, "Denny" 83, of Ventnor passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at Spring Village in Galloway. Dennis was born in Atlantic City to Joseph and Kathleen McGurk. He was the eighth of nine children. In 1953, he graduated from Holy Spirit High School. His favorite subject was history and he never lost his passionate curiosity for historical knowledge. He served in the U.S. Army for 2 years during peace time. On March 1, 1969 he married his beloved Dottie. They were married for 45 years. Dennis owned a gardening business and later was employed as the curator for the world's largest pipe organ in Atlantic City's historic Boardwalk Hall. He was often consulted for his extensive knowledge and entertaining stories about this vast musical treasure. His favorite hobby was collecting antiques, especially Lionel Trains. He was a local legend at yard sales and antique shops, where he was known for his ready wit and unmatched bargaining skills. He was also a long time member of St. James Parish in Ventnor.
Dennis was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; son, Dennis McGurk, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Oksana McGurk; and brothers, Joseph and Jimmy McGurk.
Dennis is survived by his two daughters, Tina Whitmore and Maureen Wyvill; four grandchildren, Deva Whitmore, Joseph Wyvill, Stephanie Wyvill and Daniel Wyvill; six devoted sisters, Mary Dwyer, Alice Flandreau, Sister Rita McGurk, Clare McSorley, Kathleen Wilkins and Betty Anne Harris; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Friday, February 23rd at 10:00 am, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at Holy Trinity Parish: Saint James Church, 6415 Atlantic Avenue, Ventnor. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mays Landing. In lieu of flowers a memorial donation may be sent to Holy Trinity Parish, 11 N. Kenyon Ave, Margate, NJ 08402. Arrangements by the George H.
