William Boyce

Obituary of William Boyce

Boyce, William Joseph, - 75, of Ventnor, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, January 2, 2018. He leaves behind his beloved and vivacious wife of fifty years, PEARL (nee Loescher); three brilliant, strong children Kathleen, Kelly Flynn (Brian), and Bill (Chelle); four darling, daring grandchildren Brian, Aidan, Connor, and Harriet; as well as scores of cousins and Uncle Alfie. He is pre-deceased by his loving parents, Edith (nee Wrigley) and Bud, and his best friend Alvin Price. A life-long resident of Absecon Island (aside from recent annual pilgrimages to their second home in Melbourne Beach, Florida), Bill attended schools in Margate and graduated from Atlantic City High School in 1961, then settled in Ventnor Heights. He was a loyal and diligent worker as a member of the Operating Engineers Local 825, never missing a day, building such structures as Bally's Hotel & Casino, the Ocean City Bridge, and Salem Nuclear Power Plant. As he enjoyed being out and in the water, Bill owned a motorboat that was never named, won a Marlin fishing contest in 1959, swam in the ocean after lifeguards were off-duty, followed many crew races on various rivers, but he never managed to tan his ankles or upper arms. He maintained an avid interest in cars, recklessly driving two Corvettes, and cruising in a truck, a few huge SUVs, and a couple of fuel-efficient abominations. He would daily bike the Ventnor and Atlantic City boardwalk with cousin Pat and friends Dennis and Jim, "the Slowskis", defying gravity with their measured pace, but always stopping for a cup of coffee and re-telling lots of old stories. Bill thoroughly enjoyed watching his grandsons play sports, and was a competitive athlete too, earning 2nd and 3rd place in successive Corn Hole Toss Tournaments at the A1A Condo Park. Bill will always be remembered for his blue eyes, his hearty laugh, his swoop-do, his Mac Gyver-like fixing skills, and his unswerving helpfulness to friends and family. A visitation will be held at the George H. Wimberg Funeral Home, 1707 New Road, Linwood on Saturday, February 3rd from 11-12, followed by a 12pm memorial service. In lieu of flowers or donations, hug your loved ones every day, and tell them you love them. Arrangements by the George H. Wimberg Funeral Home, Linwood Ventnor. Condolences may be extended to the family at ghwimberg.com
