Obituary of Thomas Markowski, Jr
Thomas Stanley Markowski, Jr. (1935 - 2017) of Margate City NJ, beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on Wednesday December 20th at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Newark NJ, Tom and his wife Phyllis Gonnella Markowski (also from Newark) moved to the shore in 1962, where they raised their 4 children, Cynthia, Thomas III, Jill and Jamie. Proud son of Antoinette and Thomas Stanley Markowski Sr., Tom is
survived by sisters Arlene Suminski and Valerie Smith, and preceded in death by sisters Carol Conklin and Maryanne Markowski.
Tom will be missed always, especially by his grandchildren, Phoebe & Chloe Boughrum. Tom will always be held in great esteem by two of his friends and golf buddies, Cynthia’s husband John Dunne, and Jill’s husband Donald J Boughrum. Tom was a local businessman and insurance industry professional retiring from the Louis Greenberg Agency of Northfield NJ. Mr. Markowski also taught industry professionals at Rutgers University.
The community came to know Tom and his big smile and welcoming handshake as he served 17 years as Commissioner in his beloved city of Margate. Tom belonged to many clubs and organizations including the Lions, Kiwanis, and the Atlantic County League of Municipalities for which he served as President for a term.
Tom served in the U.S. military in the mid 1950's stationed in Germany with the US Army.
Tom was a lifelong athlete, from his 1952 invitation to tryout with the NY Yankees, to his US Army baseball team membership, his volunteer coaching for local children’s baseball and basketball leagues, to being very competitive on the local golf scene at the Jersey Shore.
His enthusiasm for sports included being a lifelong NY Yankees and NY Giants fan.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated, Thursday December 28th, 11am at the Holy Trinity Parish/Blessed Sacrament Church, Ventnor and Jerome Ave. in Margate. A visitation will be held at the church from 9am to 11am, burial will be private.
