Obituary of Georgina McCully

McCully, Georgina L. (Haverstick) 79, of Mays Landing, formerly of Northfield, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 10, 2017 after a long extraordinary, courageous battle with breast, ovarian and uterine cancer.

Born January 4, 1938, Georgie was raised in Ventnor on Monmouth Ave.  She graduated from Atlantic City High School in 1956.  She loved growing up in Ventnor enjoying the beach and boardwalk.

Georgie worked in the blood bank at Atlantic City Hospital.  Georgie was always inspired to be a nurse, eventually becoming an R.N.  Her education continued in the oncology field, where she became a dedicated, compassionate Oncology Nurse Specialist.  Georgie worked for many years at AtlantiCare Regional Hospital, Atlantic Hematology and Oncology, and Home Solutions.   She also volunteered for Hospice.

Georgie was a faithful, devout member of St. Bernadette’s Church.  Her love of the Lord was evident in her dedication to the choir, Eucharistic ministry and prayer group.  Throughout her battle she would make every effort not to miss any of these things, no matter how she was feeling.

As Georgie’s battle continued, her love and support from Gilda’s Club was part of her daily life.  She was always going to Gilda’s for their amazing supportive programs.  Georgie was always more concerned with everyone else’s battle with cancer then her own.

Georgie’s greatest; most unconditional love was for her family.  She was always “the rock”, supporting everyone as wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and aunt.  Georgie is predeceased by her parents Paul and Harriet Haverstick, her brother Park, and recently by her loving husband Donald.  Georgie is survived by her sons, Donald, of Florida, Paul (Colleen) and Matt (Michele) of Northfield;  Grandchildren, Brooke (Mike) Washlick, Tara Benigno, Jessica, Cailin, Kira, Megan, Matthew, Michael and Molly; Great-Grandchildren, Michael, Lucas, Lily and Jaxon; Brother, Terry (Judith) Haverstick; Sister-in-law, Jane Haverstick; Niece, Elizabeth (Jonathan) Zader; Nephews, Christopher and Michael Haverstick, Brian and Alvin McCully; Great nephews, Kevin and Ryan Haverstick, Jacob and Benjamin Zader.

Georgie loved everything about golf, vacationing and entertaining family and friends.   She loved the community at the Fairways. She was a member of the ladies golf league and the Fairways dancers.  She enjoyed Saturday “Breakfast Club” and many wonderful friends and neighbors.

A visitation will be held Sunday, July 16th from 6:00 to 8:00pm at the George H. Wimberg Funeral Home, 1707 New Rd, Linwood.  Mass will be held at 11:00am Monday July 17, 2017 at St. Gianna Beretta Molla Parish, 1421 New Rd, Northfield with visitation beginning at 9:30am.
