DIGIACINTO, KATHRYN (KAY) (NEE KANE) - 99, of Margate City, passed away peacefully on March 7th, 2018 at her beloved home in Margate. Born to Andrew and Margaret Kane in Philadelphia on June 25th, 1918, Kay was raised in Ventnor City, attended the Ventnor Public Schools, Atlantic City High School, and the New Jersey College of Commerce. In 1942, Kay married her dear husband Louis DiGiacinto. They moved to Margate where they raised four daughters. Kay was very proud of her work experience, which included being employed at the Federal Ration Board during World War II in Atlantic City, being an office manager at the WBAB Press Union Radio, also in Atlantic City, and serving as the Children’s Librarian at the Margate City Public Library for 23 years. Active in the Margate City community as well, Kay volunteered to assist the Blessed Sacrament Parish Nuns substitute teaching in the parish school, and teaching CCD classes. Kay was also an active member of the Margate Mothers’ Association and served proudly on the Margate City Board of Education, and the Margate City Library Board.
Kay is predeceased by her loving husband of 41 years; Louis, cherished daughter Karol Bucci, her parents Andrew and Margaret, and her dear sisters, Margaret Kaur Kane and Patricia Kane Kammer. She is survived by her daughters Kathryn (Kathy) Fiedler (Bob) of Margate, Luann Amodeo (John) of Margate, and Tina Leonard (Jim) of Linwood and her devoted son-in-law Joe Bucci of Linwood. Kay was most proud of her grandchildren (9) and great grandchildren (18) and they in turn showered their “Gigi” with much love. Parties at “Gigi’s” Iroquois Avenue home were always great family events for all ages and a source of many happy memories to be cherished by her devoted grandchildren and their families, which include Tracy Fiedler Santoro (Rocco) and their children Isabella and Rocco, Bob Fiedler (Lauren) and their children Charlotte, Emma, and Robert, Kara Bucci Broadhurst (Dan) and their children Luke and Lily, Joe Bucci (Danielle) and their children Leo and Kane, John Amodeo (Kelle) and their children John, Nicholas, and Patrick, Amy Amodeo and her children Kayla and Charley, James Leonard Jr. (Rebecca) and their children Grace and Christian, Andrew Leonard (Karen) and their children Katie and Emily, and youngest grandson, Matthew Leonard.
A viewing will be held at the George H. Wimberg Funeral Home , 1707 new New Road, Linwood, on Friday, March 16th, from 6pm to 8pm, and again on Saturday from 9am to 11am at Holy Trinity Parish: Blessed Sacrament Church on Jerome Avenue and Ventnor Avenue in Margate. A mass will immediately follow visitation, beginning at 11am. The burial will be private at Holy Cross Cemetery Mays Landing. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Kay can be sent to Holy Trinity Parish: Blessed Sacrament Church, 11 North Kenyon Avenue, Margate or the Margate Public Library: 8100 Atlantic Avenue, Margate. The DiGiacinto family sincerely thanks the many friends that provided social, emotional, and spiritual guidance to Kay during the past few months. Additionally, they would like to commend and thank AtlantiCare Hospice and Comfort Keepers for providing excellent health services to our “Gigi.”
